Introduction

Returning for its second edition, the NUS Blockchain Pitch Night promises to be bigger and better than ever. This year, Franklin Templeton (FT) is the official title sponsor for the NUS Blockchain Pitch Night 2024, providing participants with access to FT's executives and their valuable insights and guidance.  

Selected teams will get direct access to FT’s leaders through several office-hour sessions, conducted over 3 months. This provides them the unique opportunity to explore the practical applications of blockchain within Franklin Templeton, a global independent asset management firm. Additionally, the collaboration offers the opportunity for projects to be considered for future inclusion in the FT global fintech incubator program.

What is the Pitch Night for?

The NUS – Franklin Templeton Blockchain Pitch Night 2024 aims to provide a platform for aspiring university entrepreneurs and innovators to showcase credible and creative blockchain solutions. The pitch night challenges participants to harness the power of blockchain to solve real-world problems.  

Theme

Participants can pitch any novel idea to develop new sets of services and/or values that utilize the unique properties of blockchain, smart contracts and distributed ledgers, amongst others. The proposed solution should have a positive impact on the ecosystem. Participants can consider submitting proposals that look at Blockchain for social good, healthcare, financial services, supply chain, cybersecurity, education and many more.   

Participants can also pair blockchain with other innovative technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, Quantum Technologies and other emerging fields of innovation to come up with creative solutions. 

Qualifying Criteria and Conditions

This event is open to all university participants at all levels. University alumnus are also welcome to apply. Participants need to form a team of at least 2 or more people.  

Participants will have to come up with a compelling business plan and a functional blockchain prototype that demonstrates the practical application of their idea. Thereafter, they will have the chance to present their plan and showcase a live demo of their prototype on pitch night in front of an esteemed panel of judges. Proposed ideas should not have been commercialized before. This means that it should not be used in an incorporated company or by a large user base. 

Timeline

To support participants throughout their journey, mentors and advisors specialising in blockchain technology, startups, market validation and pitching, will be available to provide guidance and coaching. These sessions are called office hours, and there will be several of them available till before pitch night.  

Selected teams from the application stage will get to participate in office hours. All submissions from this stage should reach us by mid-August 2024. Thereafter, only submissions selected from this stage will be eligible for selection to pitch on pitch night. This second round of selection will determine which teams get to pitch in front of an esteemed judging panel and walk away with monetary prizes.  

Selected proposals from the second round MUST have at least one member who can pitch physically on pitch night 2024 on 1st November 2024. In addition, teams will need to present a functional prototype for pitch night.
